Aids for blindness

Approximately 1 in 1000 people in Belgium are blind.  They have vision that is less than or equal to 1/20 in both eyes or a field of vision smaller than or equal to 10 degrees.  Blindness can take many forms and doesn’t necessarily mean total darkness. Many blind people can still see light, vague outlines and fragments of images. Perception is also strongly affected by the stage in life that you became blind. Being born blind, as opposed to becoming blind at a later age, has a huge impact on your educational experience. The frame of reference for people who were born blind is different, which can make things more difficult. On the other hand, they learn to deal with their visual handicap from a very early age. For example, braille is easier to learn at a younger age.

Sensotec develops and distributes aids for blind people. A little over 30 years ago, Sensotec was founded as an off-shoot of the Spermalie Institute for blind and visually impaired primary and high school children in Bruges. Through this we developed years of expertise. Blindness is different for everyone, and therefore our aids are adapted to different situations. That is why personal contact is our main priority. This approach enables our consultants to provide you with the right advice.
